TRIVIA BITS ... WRESTLING

 

Many regions of the world have their own indigenous forms of hand-to-hand combat known collectively as ‘folk wrestling’. The Icelandic style is called ‘glima’ and it is thought to be more than a thousand years old. Each combatant wears belts around his waist and thighs connected by straps. The aim is to hold your opponent by these straps and throw him to the ground.
