GERRY AND THE PACEMAKERS

Of the four members of Gerry and The Pacemakers, two shared the same last name while the other two shared the same first name: brothers Gerry and Freddy Marsden, Les McGuire and Les Chadwick.

The group’s first three releases, How Do You Do It (Columbia DB 4987), I Like It (Columbia DB 7041) and, You'll Never Walk Alone (Columbia DB 7126) all went to number-one on the British charts, making them the first British group to have three number-ones. Their very next single I'm the One (Columbia DB 7189), peaked at number-two.

The band's original name was Gerry Marsden and The Mars Bars, but they were forced to change this when the Mars Company, producers of the chocolate Mars Bar, complained.
