WILL 'THOR 2' INCLUDE ANTHONY HOPKINS?

CA.0713.thor.

Rumour has it that Thor 2 could be missing a major character when it starts filming next winter. Anthony Hopkins is looking to star in another sequel, Red 2 and the two pictures could overlap. So is the rumour true?

Yes, Hopkins wants desperately to play the villain in Red 2. The film reunites actors Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Bruce Willis as a quartet of supposedly retired CIA agents. The problem is things keep happening that call the little group back into action. This time around, they'll be joined by Lee Byung-hun and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The original Red was a big success; hence the plans for a sequel. However, the shooting of that film could overlap the shooting of the highly anticipated Thor sequel. That would make it difficult for Hopkins to appear in both movies.

Still, Hopkins is hopeful things will work out. He doesn't want to miss out on either opportunity, given that roles for 70-plus actors are sometimes few and few between.

Much of Hopkins' decision hinges on when Thor 2 actually begins filming. It already has a release date set in November of next year. However, Red 2 is scheduled for release before that, in August of the same year. That's a tight timeframe between the two films.

As Thor's father, however, Hopkins is an essential part of the comic book film. If he must give up one role, fans hope it isn't that one.
