DIONNE WARWICK

When Hal David and Burt Bacharach first discovered Dionne Warwick, she was singing backup for The Drifters and as lead singer for The Gospelaires. Later, Dionne became a backup singer for The Shirelles.
Dionne added an "e" to her last name just for luck (and for her husband Bill Elliot's name), thus becoming Dionne Warwicke. Her career, for some unknown reason, took a nose dive shortly afterward and she quickly changed it back to the original spelling. The suggestion came from astrologer Linda Goodman.

Dionne, who has a B.A. and M.A. in Music from the University of Hartford, sang the theme songs for the movies Valley of The Dolls (1967) and The April Fools (1969).

She also sang the title song of the 1969 movie Slaves, in which she co-starred as Cassy. Dionne also sang Here I Am in the 1965 film What's New Pussycat.
