Prior to recording his first record The Lonely Bull (A & M 703), Herb Alpert was one of the drummers in Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 version of The Ten Commandments. He appeared in the scene where Moses is descending from the mountain, his back to the audience while he beats a drum. In the 1959 Bing Crosby - Debbie Reynolds film Say One For Me, a young Herb Alpert can be seen playing the trumpet in a nightclub band.

Alpert was one of the co-writers of Sam Cooke's 1960 hit Wonderful World (Keen 2L12).

Lani Hall Alpert, the wife of Herb Alpert, was once the lead singer with Sergio Mendez and Brazil '66. Dore Alpert, Herb's brother, recorded several singles during 1962-1963.

In 1959, Herb Alpert and record producer Lou Adler recorded The Trial (Arch 1607), using the pseudonym Herb B. Lou, while its flip side, The Kiss, was performed by a group called The Legal Eagles.
