When Neil Diamond first recorded for Columbia Records, they dropped him after he made a total of only $15 in royalties on his 1963 recording Clown Town/At Night (Columbia 4-42809). Ten years later, after recording for Bang and Uni Records, Columbia again signed Diamond, this time for $4.5 million. The score for the I97l movie Jonathan Livingston Seagull was composed by Neil Diamond.
Neil was given $5 million to star in, to write the songs for, to sing in, and to score the 1980 movie The Jazz Singer. This was the highest amount of money ever paid to a performer for a movie debut.
Neil Diamond composed two of The Monkees' gold records: I'm A Believer (Colgems 1002) and A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You (Colgems 1004). Neil sang Glory Road in the 1970 PauI Newman/Joanne Woodward film WUSA.
